I am curious about one thing, can you do a burn out in the SH-AWD TLX? I have learned to go easy on the throttle in my FWD TLX in some situations, like if I'm accelerating from a stop while turning, particularly if the road has some sand/gravel/dirt on it or other traction reducing conditions - w/SH-AWD I know that I can apply more throttle and not even come close to losing traction in cases where my FWD wheels would chirp, slip, or even burn out. I was lucky I didn't hit the car in front of me, but I slid within inches.ĭo I like the 19" wheels more than the 18" wheels? I'm not really sure yet - I know people say "I love my SH-AWD because it really puts the power down" but this car feels slightly sluggish compared to mine?!? Do bigger wheels make a car feel less peppy? Is the transmission programmed slightly differently on the SH-AWD? I think the way the TLX "learns" from your driving has had a huge effect on how my car responds to my input and that learning phase hasn't happened in this new ASpec. SH-AWD costs $2K - yes, I would like to have it in the winter, but so far (2 winters) the worst issues I've encountered in regards to ice/snow in my car would not have been helped by AWD but would have been helped by better winter tires (or metal studded tires) AWD doesn't help you stop faster when the ice at the intersection is smooth as glass and you were going 10 MPH when you should have been going 5 MPH. This ASpec is ~$10K more than mine was, I honestly wouldn't pay $4K more for it (unless I had so much money that I could afford other cars that I might want even more, like the BMW M2, or the C8 Vette). It's a good option to let respondents make comparisons or select, say, their levels of satisfaction with a product. In addition to the standard option to require a response for each question, the multiple choice grid lets you limit users to only one response per column.Ĭheckbox grid: This is set up similarly to the multiple choice grid, but respondents can select multiple answer options (columns) for each row in a table. You can include as many rows and columns as you want, but note that respondents will have to scroll right to see more than six columns on desktop browsers or just three columns on mobile. Essentially, you enter questions as rows and answers as columns. Multiple choice grid: This is perhaps the most confusing field, as the fields are displayed in a list rather than in a grid. You can also add labels for the lowest and highest options. Linear scale: This field lets respondents select a number in a range, so you can set a numerical scale starting at 0 or 1 and ending anywhere from 2 to 10. The only difference is that the answers are presented in a dropdown menu. It doesn't include section jumps, however.ĭropdown: This is similar to the multiple choice question type with the same section jump and shuffle options. It also includes data validation to require users to select a specific number of options. You can then have the form jump to another section based on the answer or have the answer options shuffled to prevent bias.Ĭheckboxes: This field lets you list different options and have users select as many as they want. This was not in the plan, but it was a very low cost HD upgrade, which I like. It was not needed ie the plans was signed off, but I thought it could help if a large tree or branch ever hit the roof, help to keep it from breaking the spine. My ridge beam was of the non load bearing type, but I did install a post in the middle of the ridge in the attic over an inside load bearing wall (load bearing in the sense it held up the ceiling joist/rafter tie span mid way point) and when the concrete guys did my foundation, I had them pour an extra pier pad to extend that point load in the middle of the ridge all the way to that extra pad in the crawlspace. And a guy could certainly add one on every rafter section too for that HD upgrade. I suppose this would vary depending on snow and wind loads too. # Posted: 13 Mar 2016 13:12 - Edited by: toyota_mdt_techĪlso, a added note, in my cabin, a collar tie was on every 3rd rafter (with 16" OC spans) and if you have a 24" centers, every other one. In terms of my last point, I'm not sure why this seems so rare in my searches. In terms of eliminating both collar ties and ceiling joists or mostly eliminating them the collar ties, (which I want to do in removing a cabin's ceiling) rare are the photos of 3 beams - a ridge beam with two outlying beams, one on either side midway up each side. I also see larger beams going from wall to ridge, spmetimes with a large exposed ridge beam, sometimes not. However, in searching google images of open beam and cathedral ceilings, I see lots of photos of ceilings where the ties appear to sit about half way down and there are no ceiling joists/rafter ties. Stud grade lumber has the least resistance to bending of all the commonly used lumber grades. If there is a kneewall with rafter loads being applied above the loft floor wind forces may total up to exceed the carrying ability of wall studs. Wall studs are meant to support axial loads, top to bottom, as well as wind forces against the wall. The so called kneewall above the loft floor results in increased side forces on the side walls. Loft floor joists across the walls that are below the side wall top plate do not count as rafter ties. This will sometimes result in requiring a larger size rafter. When rafter ties are raised to increase headroom corrections must be applied to the rafters. Rafter span tables are calculated assuming the rafter ties are located at the bottom across the wall tops in other words. With a pitch of 12:12 the downwards and the outwards forces are equal. The lower the pitch the greater the outward horizontal force. Some of that force is down the wall and some horizontally outward. Loads on the roof, snow, wind, rain are transfered by the rafters to the wall top. Rafter ties keep the wall tops from spreading apart. Rafter ties are located in the lower third. Collar ties keep the peak together, metal hurricane ties keep the eves connected to the walls. High winds blowing over a roof up to the ridge can act like an airfoil, causing lift forces. The collar ties help keep the roof together at the peak. That should be self explanatory, but take note that the collar tie is in the top third of the space. Thay are not the same, they are not interchangeable. I have found some confusion out there when it comes to these two vital gable roof components. This discussion/tip concerns gable roofs and their collar ties and rafter ties. Some sizes outside that range have different ratios.īelow, these guidelines are explored with examples. The 85% and 90% rules works best in the range of 1⁄ 4–1 in (6.4–25.4 mm), the sizes most important on many shop floors. For both of these rules of thumb (85%/90% and major minus pitch), the tap drill size yielded is not necessarily the only possible one, but it is a good one for general use. Your result will only land near a tap drill size (not directly on one). For example, a screw with a pitch of 1/20 in (20 threads per inch) has a pitch of 0.050 in and a 1⁄ 13 in pitch (13 threads per inch) has a pitch of 0.077 in. The major minus pitch technique also works for inch-based threads, but you must first calculate the pitch by converting the fraction of threads-per-inch (TPI) into a decimal. For metric V threads, the concept of major minus pitch (i.e., the major or widest diameter of the intended screw in millimeters minus the pitch of the threads of that screw in millimeters per thread) yields a good tap drill diameter.A good tap drill is 85% (± 2 pp) of major diameter for coarse threads, and 90% (± 2 pp) of major diameter for fine threads.Regarding the proportion of tap drill to thread major diameter, for standard V threads ( ISO V thread and UTS V thread), there are several rules of thumb with strong predictive power: People frequently use a chart such as this to determine the proper tap drill for a certain thread size or the proper tap for an existing hole. Usually thread depths of 60% to 75% are desired. Many thread sizes have several possible tap drills, because they yield threads of varying thread depth between 50% and 100%. Such an appropriately sized drill is called a tap drill for that size of thread, because it is a correct drill to be followed by the tap. Each standard size of female screw thread has one or several corresponding drill bit sizes that are within the range of appropriate size-slightly larger than the minor diameter of the mating male thread, but smaller than its pitch and major diameters. One of the most common ways to produce such threaded holes is to drill a hole of appropriate size with a drill bit and then tap it with a tap. In manufactured parts, holes with female screw threads are often needed they accept male screws to facilitate the building and fastening of a finished assembly. Below is a comprehensive drill and tap size chart for all drills and taps, imperial and metric, up to 36.5 millimetres (1.44 in) in diameter. |
